Swim Classes for Toddlers

Sea Horses (3-4 years old) 30 minute lessons

This class is designed to make the swimmer more comfortable in the water by using fun themes and games at a pace that the students will enjoy. Students will be working towards establishing their base skills in the water so they can succeed at future levels. Teaching ratio 4:1.

Skills to be taught:

  • Water adaptation
  • Get in the pool by themselves
  • Get out of the pool by themselves
  • Flutter kicking holding wall
  • Adjustment to coaches
  • Reaching assists
  • Use of personal flotation devices
  • Throwing floating objects
  • Monkey walking
  • Climbing out of the pool

Sea Turtles (3-4 years old) 30 minute lessons

This class will build upon those skills that were learned in Sea Horses. The coaches will be using fun themes and games to assist with the swimmer’s learning. Students will be adding to their aquatic toolbox so they can steadily progress at their own pace. Teaching ratio 4:1.

Skills to be taught:

  • Go underwater by self
  • Open eyes under water
  • Hold breath and blow out (on deck)
  • Blow bubbles in water
  • Sit/fall/kick back to the wall
  • Floats (Prone/Back)

Sea Otters (3-4 years old) 30 minute lessons

In this class, students will continue working on being independent in the water. As the students learn new skills, the coaches will challenge them by requiring the students to use more gross motor skills to aid in future swimming success. Teaching ratio 4:1.

Skills to be taught:

  • Tread water
  • Kick across pool prone
  • Kick across pool on back
  • Kick across pool with arms extended
  • Jump into water unassisted
  • Surface and roll to back
  • Yell for “help”
  • Maintain back float for 30 seconds
  • Prone float and kick
  • Back float and kick
  • Wall Bobs

Sea Otters II (3-4 years old)

For children aged 3-4 that have advanced skills. This level must be approved by Deck Supervisors.
